RECORDING NOTES

Recording this album must come pretty high up in my list of the top 100 most fun things you can do in a vertical orientation!

Whilst on holiday with my family in Disneyland, Paris, I was pleased to hear a fair number of my tracks being used on the Disneyland Hotel TV channels. I was also really chuffed when one of my tracks ‘Encounter’ was used on the advert for the ‘Space Mountain’ ride appearing on all the video releases of ‘The Lion King’ and ‘Pocahontas’. However, I had up to this point never recorded any music specifically for children’s imagination, magic, fantasy and the like for the DeWolfe library. So when Warren DeWolfe asked me if I would like to do a project along these lines I jumped at the opportunity. I consider myself a full-time dad, part-time composer, so I thought I had all the requisite experience for the job. I loved recording this album, and the atmosphere during the orchestral sessions with the London Telefilmonic was fantastic. They seemed to be really enjoying the music and I hope this comes across.  Many of the musicians were involved in the recording of the score for ‘The Return of the King’ (the last of the Lord of the Rings trilogy) at the time, and I think my album was a bit of light relief for them!

I have always been a big fan Disney soundtracks, particularly those of Alan Menken (‘Beauty and the Beast’, ‘Pocahontas’ and many more), and one of my earliest memories is of going to see ‘Fantasia’ at the cinema.

I have included some photos from the recording sessions. Two very talented young ladies, (both friends of my daughter) are featured on the album, Freya recorded all the harp parts and Becky sang the lead vocal on ‘This Magical Night’.
